Origami Booklet Tutorial

Origami Book

It was my wedding anniversary yesterday, so I made a book like card for my husband. My elementary teacher taught me how to make the origami books and I love them. I made a few adjustments by cutting the center and binding with tape, but they are so easy to personalize and great for a memorable gift. You just only need a few minutes, piece of paper, pair of scissors, bone folder (only if you have one) and your imagination. I created a template, so please feel free to download the Origami Booklet Template (173KB ZIP). Enjoy!

Origami Booklet
1) Fold into 8 rectangles.

*Fold the paper like in the above to make perfect rectangles and you can always use a bone folder to make straight edges.

2) Cut along the center, but make sure not to detach the last rectangle.

3) Push the flaps to the center and make a diamond.

4) The center should look like a cross from the top.

4) Fold the open flaps around the closed flaps.
Bind the book with tape! And you’re done!

Asymmetrical Charm Necklace Tutorial

A tutorial on Asymmetrical Charm Necklace.

DIY_necklace1

1) Find a chain necklace with a clasp. (much easier) You can always recycle and use a chain lying around the house. If you prefer a certain color or thickness, they can be found at TOHO Shoji.

2) Cut the chain with a plier, but make sure to cut a bit to the right or left to make it asymmetrical.

3) Pick your parts and layout your design. I try to use the same colors and textures for the charms and parts as the chain to make it look more natural and chic. Just remember that it always looks different laying it out flat and on you.

4) Now the tricky part, connect the parts with the jump rings. Always try to open the jump rings along the cut and not to widen the rings.

5) Try it on and adjust the lengths and charms. VoilĂ , you’re done!

Wall Art

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Since the memorial day weekend, my spare time were spent redecorating the house. Our house just seemed very bland with the high ceilings and it was definitely time for some wall treatments. Although I would love to have these beautiful walls, I wasn’t confident painting the walls or even repainting it back to white.

Looking for other ideas, I recalled a beautiful illustration by Mariko Jesse that would just be perfect for the wall above the unused or more like unusable antique fireplace. I decided to draw on a big white canvas bought at Lee’s Art Shop with a Gold paint pen at Paper Presentation. And to add more love, I placed our paper cutout initials and frame on each side. Although it depends on what kind of look you are trying to achieve for, I’ve always thought rectangle motifs are easier to arrange and makes a room classic with a modern twist. Is it time for your walls to get some attention?
