Hello, my name is Asami. Born and raised in sunny Southern California, I grew up learning how to appreciate various cultures in a diverse community. I spent most of my time drawing or gazing at English and Japanese picture books during my childhood. My designs are inspired by “bold” American and “delicate” Japanese cultures. I love working digitally but also with good old-fashioned pen and paper. When I create my work, I place a great deal of weight on adding organic and handcrafted elements! I always look for inspiration and focus on doing the things I love.
I have worked on various projects for large and small businesses, from websites plus graphic design and illustration projects. こんにちは。イラストレーター、グラフィックデザイナーのASAMIです。
さわやかな風と光が注ぐ南カリフォルニアで生まれ育ち、現在は主人と娘達とボストンに暮らし、日本を行き来しています。大学を卒業後、東京都で翻訳と通訳の仕事を数年間しておりました。その後、ニューヨークのパーソンズのデザイン科で学び、ウェブ・グラフィックデザインの仕事をしていました。約１０年間ニューヨークで過ごし、北カリフォルニアのベイエリアに引っ越しをキッカケに、イラストの仕事にシフトしました。時間と共に自分の創造性や情熱と言ったものが変わってきているのを感じました。特に娘達が私の世界に加わって来た事で世界観も随分変わりました。家族と過ごし、その中で見つけた思わず「クスッ」と笑ってしまうような事を大切にしています。
娘たちと一緒に楽しみながら創造的に、心が踊るようなアイディアを常に探しています。自分の好きな模様、色の組み合わせ、イラスト、ナチュラルでオーガニックなデザインや素材、水彩、手仕事、カリグラフィー、幾何学的なデザインなどなど数えきれない好みのものに出会える喜びを肌で感じています。旅行も大好きですが、お気軽に散歩や探索をして自然に触れることも大事にしています。
日本らしさとアメリカらしさを程よく融合し、心地良いイラストを目指しています。
